NAS announces travel restrictions and humanitarian guidelines following fresh SSPDF attacks

In light of escalating violence from the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), the National Salvation Front (NAS) has announced critical travel restrictions and guidelines for humanitarian operations. This proactive response follows recent unprovoked attacks and the resolve by NAS forces to actively engage and attack the SSPDF and allied militia wherever they are on the move.

In a statement by NAS spokesperson Suba Samuel, NAS leadership emphasized the need for heightened caution among civilians, advising against travel on several major roads that are now considered high-risk zones. These routes include the Juba-Yei-Kaya, Yei-Maridi, Juba-Mundri-Yambio, and others, which have become dangerous due to ongoing military activities.

NAS also urged all civilians, including families of SSPDF soldiers, to avoid boarding military vehicles and to exercise extreme caution in their movements. The statement highlighted that the safety of the public is paramount during this period of increased military engagement.

Recognizing the importance of humanitarian assistance, NAS also issued directives for non-governmental organizations (NGOs). While reaffirming its commitment to allowing unhindered access for humanitarian operations, NAS stressed the necessity for agencies to coordinate their missions with NASโ€™s Humanitarian Commission. Organizations are required to obtain permission at least seven days before initiating any operations in affected areas.

โ€œThe cooperation of humanitarian agencies is vital to ensure the safety of both their personnel and the communities they serve,โ€ the statement noted. NAS emphasized that adherence to these guidelines would facilitate more effective and secure humanitarian efforts amidst the conflict.

NASโ€™s leadership remains dedicated to protecting the citizens of South Sudan and ensuring that humanitarian aid can reach those in need, while also standing firm against the aggression of the SSPDF. The organizationโ€™s commitment to safeguarding the population and coordinating humanitarian efforts underscores its dual mission in this challenging environment.
