NAS Eid al-Adha: Juba regime “neither cares for its people nor wants peace”, vows to fight on
General Thomas Cirillo Swaka, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the National Salvation Front/Army (NAS), has issued an Eid al-Adha message extending greetings to all South Sudanese Muslims and calling out the Juba regime for subjecting the population to killings, displacement, and the collapse of basic living conditions.
A Regime That Neither Cares for Its People Nor Wants Peace
In a message dated 27 May 2026 and issued from NAS General Headquarters, NAS Chairman Gen Thomas Cirillo extended warm greetings to South Sudanese Muslims, the broader population, and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of Eid al-Adha al-Mubarak.
But the message was not merely ceremonial. Geen Thomas placed the holy festival in its political context, stating that this year’s Eid arrives amid deepening suffering across the country.
“These times are hard for all families across the country,” the message reads, “especially those in refugee camps and the internally displaced. They struggle with the high cost of living, the lack and shortage of basic necessities of life such as food and medicine.”
The message directly attributed this suffering to the Juba regime, describing communities “subjected to the hardship of killings and displacement by a regime that neither cares for its people, nor wants peace and stability in the country.”
NAS Reaffirms Solidarity and Commitment to the Struggle
The Chairman extended special Eid al-Adha greetings to NAS soldiers and members of the National Salvation Front, calling on them to mark the holy festival with celebration.
He reaffirmed that NAS “is in solidarity with you, feels your pain and is committed to bringing your suffering to an end,” pledging to “continue to struggle until we achieve genuine peace and security in South Sudan, end the current rampant corruption, and bring a dignified life to the people.”
The Chairman praised the resilience of the South Sudanese people in the face of hardship and urged them to continue supporting one another, expressing confidence that “despite the current challenges, the future will be brighter.”
NAS Calls for Inclusive Dialogue Addressing Root Causes
The message closed with a reaffirmation of NAS’s position on the path to peace – rejecting the existing arrangements and calling for a process that addresses the true origins of South Sudan’s crisis.
NAS “reaffirms its commitment to genuine peace through inclusive dialogue and a process that addresses the root causes of the conflict in South Sudan.”
This position places NAS in direct contrast with the R-ARCSS framework, which NAS did not sign, and with the Juba regime’s characterisation of the conflict as resolved.
