SSOMA appreciates denunciation by the International Community of Kiir’s violations of CoHA

Faced with a dishonest regime and deteriorating political and economical environment, the people of South Sudan are counting on the National Salvation Front (NAS) for deliverance. Chairman and C-in-C Gen Thomas Cirillo said this fact presents a great and historic responsibility to which NAS members must rise to.

The South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) has commended statements by the Community of Santโ€™Egidio, the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Security Council Penal of Experts on South Sudan denouncing the continuing blatant violation of the Cessation of Hostility Agreement (CoHA) 2017 and the concerted offensive targetting civilians by the Kiir’s regime.

These views were made public in a press statement issued today May 5th 2020.

A few days ago, the Community of Santโ€™Egidio issued a statement entitled “South Sudan, Concern about the New Violence in Central Equatoria the Peace Process must continue” decrying Kiir’s military build-up and violations of CoHA.

The EU and the UN Penal of Experts on South Sudan have equally issued similar reports with the one by the UN panel of experts exposing and confirming causes of slaughter and gross human rights violations against innocent youth, women and children.

SSOMA, an alliance of opposition parties that are non-signatories to the R-ARCSS, reaffirmed their stance for not signing and continuing to reject the R-ARCSS as it does not address any of the root causes of the conflict in the country.

Reiterating their position, “[SSOMA] from the onset categorically rejected the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) because it failed to address the fundamental root causes of the conflict”

They went on to recommit to a platform that offers a chance to discuss these fundamental issues.ย

“Hence, SSOMA is committed to the Rome Declaration for addressing the root causes of the conflict in South Sudan as well as the Rome Resolution on the CoHA and we expect the Government of the Republic of South Sudan to do the same.”

The statement then reassured the suffering and peace-loving people of South Sudan that there is still hope for peace.

“…we take this opportunity to assure our supporters and the people of South Sudan that SSOMA is committed to the Rome Peace Process under the auspices of the Community of Sant’Egidio; which is the only hope for sustainable and durable peace in the Republic of South Sudan.”

The South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) comprises of the South Sudan National Democratic Alliance (SSNDA) led by Gen. Thomas Cirillo who also heads the National Salvation Front โ€“ NAS, the South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) led by Gen. Paul Malong, and the Real Sudan Peopleโ€™s Liberation Movement (R-SPLM) led by Paโ€™gan Amum.
