NAS Forces Capture and Destroy Multiple SSPDF Bases in Central Equatoria

The National Salvation Front/Army (NAS) has launched a series of successful military operations against forces of President Kiir’s regime (SSPDF) in Central Equatoria State, capturing and destroying multiple enemy positions in retaliation for sustained attacks on NAS forces.
Pangoya Barracks Overrun in Lobonok
On March 29, 2025, at 05:35 AM, NAS forces in Zone-4 executed a retaliatory strike against SSPDF forces stationed at Pangoya Barracks in Lobonok County. According to NAS Military Spokesperson Lt. Col. Kenyi Mogga Lomeling, the operation was launched in response to repeated provocations by the SSPDF against NAS positions.
In a swift and precise attack, a platoon of NAS fighters infiltrated the enemy stronghold, dislodged government troops, and set the barracks ablaze before making a tactical withdrawal. The operation resulted in the deaths of 22 SSPDF soldiers and the capture of significant military hardware, including an 82mm mortar with 14 shells, an RPG-7 with five shells, 14 boxes of PKM machine-gun ammunition, and 12 functional Kalashnikov rifles. One NAS fighter was killed in action, and another sustained minor injuries.
SSPDF Outpost Destroyed Near Former Vice Presidentโs Residence
Three days earlier, on March 26, NAS forces successfully repulsed an SSPDF assault and pursued the retreating troops to their New Site outpost in Lobonok, near the residence of former Vice President Wani Igga. NAS forces overran the outpost, destroying the enemy position and seizing five AK-47 rifles and six loaded bullet chains for a PKM machine gun. The destruction of this base further solidified NAS control in the region.
Kansuk Base Captured and Fallen NAS Commander Honoured
On March 25, NAS forces, under the command of Major Alfred Lujang Thomas, launched a counter-offensive in Kansuk, Nyapo Payam, Kajo Keji County. Government troops were driven from their defensive positions as NAS fighters stormed and burned down the SSPDF detachment. The attack resulted in 12 SSPDF soldiers killed and the capture of eight Kalashnikov rifles with substantial ammunition supplies.
However, during a subsequent operation against another SSPDF outpost in Gederu, NAS forces encountered an enemy ambush while withdrawing. The clash led to the loss of Major Alfred Lujang Thomas and three other NAS fighters. Three additional NAS soldiers sustained minor injuries. Tragically, three civilians were also killed after being used as human shields by SSPDF forces.
Lt. Col. Lomeling extended condolences on behalf of NAS leadership to the families of the fallen freedom fighters, commending their ultimate sacrifice for the liberation of South Sudan. He reaffirmed NASโs commitment to resisting government aggression and defending civilians against SSPDF hostilities.
Ongoing Resistance Against Aggression
NAS has reiterated that its forces remain in defensive positions and only engage in combat when provoked. The recent battles in Lobonok and Kajo Keji demonstrate NASโs continued resolve to resist government attacks and uphold the struggle for South Sudanโs liberation. The leadership has urged the public to remain steadfast, assuring that NAS remains vigilant and prepared to counter any further aggressions by the SSPDF.
