NAS fighters repel SSPDF looters in Eastern Equatoria
National Salvation Front (NAS) fighters in the Imatong area of Eastern Equatoria clashed with South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) militias on August 5-6, temporarily halting SSPDF’s long-standing looting spree that has been terrorising locals for some time.
According to a press release by NAS spokesman Suba Samuel, eight SSPDF soldiers were killed, and 15 others wounded during the two-day counter-attack.
Responding to intelligence reports that SSPDF soldiers where in the process of to burning down two villages after locals refused to surrender their property and food, the NAS Zone Two (2) commander promptly responded to protect the innocent civilians and their property. The SSPDF troops, allegedly unpaid for over 9 months, had turned to looting civilians’ food supplies and livestock.
NAS will always stand up to protect the dignity, lives, and property of the citizens wherever they live.
NAS reassured local residents and South Sudanese in general, stating, “NAS will always stand up to protect the dignity, lives, and property of the citizens wherever they live.”
NAS has also called on international bodies, including the United Nations, African Union, and IGAD, to pressure the government in Juba to cease attacks on civilians and urged humanitarian agencies to aid those in need.
“NAS proudly stands in solidarity with our people in the Imatong area and all over South Sudan,” Suba Samuel concluded.
