Gen Thomas Cirillo condoles the death of Gen Abraham Wana – “a true brother, elder and fellow compatriot”

In a touching message of condolences on the passing on of Gen. Abraham Wana Yoane who died after succumbing to injuries of an alleged assassination, Gen. Thomas Cirillo, the Chairman and C-in-C of the National Salvation Front (NAS) called the veteran “a true brother, elder and fellow compatriot” and “a fierce fighter, a revolutionary who [as an SPLA General] fought all the oppressive successive regimes in Khartoum from 1986 to the end”.

According to a statement by Kwaje Lasu, the Secretary-General of the South Sudan National Movement for Change (SSNMDC) under the leadership of Dr Vakindi Unvu, Gen Abraham Wana Yoane, the Chief of Staff of the SSNMDC/A Β  was “attacked, badly beaten and left dead in the early hours of April 20, 2021, in Kampala.” Gen Abraham Wana clung to life but died just two days later after succumbing to the injuries of that attack that the SSNMDC believe carried out by “thugs of Juba” and must, as such, be considered as an assassination as it bears the “hallmarks of Juba regime and its brutal National Security [agents] are the prime suspects”.

Gen. Abraham Wana was a fierce fighter, a revolutionary who fought all the oppressive successive regimes in Khartoum from 1986 to the end….a true brother, elder and fellow compatriot; his brutal demise is shocking and regrettable, but we shall not be threatened nor intimidated to surrender

To NAS and its Chairman and C-in-C Gen Thomas Cirillo, there was a lot of revolutionary history to share.

“Gen. Abraham Wana was a fierce fighter, a revolutionary who fought all the oppressive successive regimes in Khartoum from 1986 to the end. He was among the pioneers who expanded the SPLM/A movement to Equatoria Region in 1986, successfully established Morta Training centre, which trained and passed out different badges of Shakous and Pengkimang Battalions.

“Gen Abraham commanded and participated in many battles against Khartoum forces; his last mission was in Eastern Sudan front under my [Gen Thomas] command from 1998 till the peace agreement was signed in 2005.

“To NAS, Gen Abraham is a true brother, elder and fellow compatriot; his brutal demise is shocking and regrettable, but we shall not be threatened nor intimidated to surrender. The sacrifices of Gen Abraham Wana and all our matters shall not be in vain”.

In conclusion, the statement said “His legacy, determination, and resolve’s spirit against injustice shall strengthen us to continue the struggle with more zeal till freedom and justice is achieved in our beloved country. May the Almighty God rest the soul of Gen. Abraham Wana Yoane in eternal peace”.
