NAS appoints Commander for Upper Nile Command Area

In recognition of his commitment to work for the salvation of the people of South Sudan, Major General Sebit Kong Kuon has been named the NAS/A Commander for Upper Nile Command Area.

In recognition of his commitment to work for the salvation of the people of South Sudan, Major General Sebit Kong Kuon has been named the NAS/A Commander for Upper Nile Command Area.

The announcement was made in a letter from the office of the Chairman and Commander-in-Chief Gen Thomas Cirillo dated 20th January 2020 to all NAS/A units.Β 

“Reference to the ongoing organization and building of NAS Army structures, I, Gen. Thomas Cirillo Swaka, Chairman and C-in-C of National Salvation Front/ Army, hereby appoint Maj. General Sebit Kong Kuon as commander of Upper Nile Command Area with the effect from this day the 20th February 2020,” read the letter in part.

In December 2019, Major General Sebit Kong Kuon (who was their Chief of Staff) and the entire military and political leadership of the Federal Unionist Liberation Front (FULF) pledged their allegiance to NAS under the leadership of Gen Thomas Cirillo. In his letter declaring his allegiance, the general stated that he “is convinced that the R-ARCSS is a sell-out of the aspirations of the people of South Sudan for a just and sustainable peace,” and that “sustainable peace can only be achieved through addressing the root causes of the conflict in the country.”
