The Chief of Staff of the National Salvation Front/Army (NAS) on Tuesday congratulated NAS freedom fighters, officers and commanders on recent great victories achieved in fighting in self-defence against unprovoked aggressions by the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and its tribal militias.
In a statement sent to all units and the general public, the Chief of Staff General Faiz Ismail Fatir praised the forces in the frontline operations zones and others for the victories.
“With these great victories, I the Chief of Staff of the National Salvation Front/Army appreciate the leading role exercised by different units and sector commanders, and for the efforts and continuous support from various sectors that lead to these true victory,” read the statement in part.
General John Kenyi Loburon, the Sector Commander of Greater Equatoria and Deputy Chief of Staff for Training and five other commanders of Central Equatoria, Yei River State, Western Mundri Area, Lobonok Area, and Northern Juba Area were listed in the congratulatory message.
In the past few months the SSPDF, supported by some elements of the SPLM-IO and other tribal militia, has been carrying out unprovoked military attacks against NAS positions. Their defeat in the hands of NAS forces has been documented in several press statements that can be found here.
NAS has always maintained its commitment to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) signed in Addis Ababa in December 2017 however, it also reserves the right of self-defence against continuous unprovoked attacks.
