The leadership of the National Salvation Front (NAS) learned, with deep sorrow, of the sudden death of Rev. Canon Clement Guya Janda which occurred on 8th March 2021 al a hospital in Arua, Uganda.

On behalf of the leadership and all members of the National Salvation Front, I extend heartfelt condolences to the wife, children, family, relatives and friends of Rev. Canon Janda and the entire people of South Sudan for this great loss of a loving father, a clergyman, friend and a selfless public servant. We pray to the Almighty God for consolation and strength at this very difficult time.

Rev. Canon Janda led an exemplary life of great service with dedication and selflessness. He started serving as a clergyman in the Episcopal Church of Sudan (ECS), Anglican Church. He also served as the Secretary-General of the Sudan Council of Churches (SCC), Executive Secretary at the World Council of Churches (WCC) and as the Secretary-General of the All Africa Council of Churches.

Uncle Janda, as he was popularly known, later joined the Sudan People’s Liberation MovemenUArmy (SPLM/A), prominently playing an advisory role to the leadership of the movement and eventually serving in the Council of States in Sudan and South Sudan.

South Sudan has indeed lost one of its great sons; a servant of God, freedom fighter, peacemaker, friend, leader, mentor and statesman.
Although his demise has created a void, difficult to replace, he will continue to live on in our hearts and be remembered for his distinguished service, wisdom and sense of humour. His legacy shall live on to inspire generations and future leaders in our country.

May the Almighty God rest the soul of Rev. Canon Clement Guya Janda in Eternal Peace.
