Amum, Malong condemn attacks on NAS

The South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) - that includes The Real SPLM (R-SPLM) led by Pagan Amum, and South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) led by Paul Malong- has strongly come out to condemn the ongoing joint attacks on NAS positions saying an attack on one of them is an attack to all of them.

The South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) – that includes The Real SPLM (R-SPLM) led by Pagan Amum, and South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) led by Paul Malong- has strongly come out to condemn the ongoing joint attacks on NAS positions saying an attack on one of them is an attack on all of them.

“..any attack on its members is an attack on the SSOMA as a whole”

The press statement released on May 12 said the alliance, that comprises nine political movements, said it “strongly condemns the ongoing blatant atrocities, raping of girls and women, forced displacement, looting and destruction of properties in Central Equatoria State,” and adding that “we strongly stand with our brothers and sisters and the gallant forces of NAS in solidarity as they strive to protect the unarmed civilians of South Sudan.”

“…any attack on its members is an attack on the SSOMA as a whole”

The statement then went on to reassure the general public and members of the International Community that, despite Kiir’s and Machar’s poor judgement in pursuing a path of war and destruction in there offensive against NAS, SSOMA is still fully committed to the Rome Peace Declaration which is the only hope for sustainable and durable peace in South Sudan.

Earlier this month, Kiir’s SSPDF and Machar’s SPLA-IO launched a concerted joint military offensive against NAS positions. In the past few days already, hundreds of innocent civilians have been forced out of their homes as Kiir’s forces – supported by a local militia affiliated to Martin Elia – embark on their scorched-earth policy.
