The South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) welcomes and commend the statement by the African Union Peace and Security Council of 14 November 2019 (894th meeting) where it calls for all stakeholders to expeditiously work towards the operationalization of all transitional justice mechanisms including the Hybrid Court for South Sudan, in order to promote transitional justice, reconciliation and healing in the country.

Following a series of unprovoked attacks by the Salva Kiir's militia - aka the South Sudan People's Defense Forces (SSPDF) - and other militia allied to it in Morobo Country, Central Equatoria State, the revolutionary forces of the National Salvation Front (NAS) fought back in self-defence and managed to dislodge the enemy from (and liberate) Panyana military base.
The Alliance strongly believes that the wrongful and hasty formation of any new transitional government under the leadership of Salva Kiir Mayardit, and without addressing the fundamental root causes of the conflict is another recipe for a return to full-blown violence in South Sudan; as was witnessed in July 2016 - with the death of over 700 people in the capital, Juba.

On Friday, September 6th NAS positions around Yei and Lainya were attacked by the SSPDF and their allied militia. The NAS forces heroically fought back in self-defense, repulsed the attack, pursued the enemy and overran their positions in Bereka and Mukaya. The defeated attackers fled towards Lainya and Yei town in disarray.
