Christmas Message: NAS Chairman calls on the International Community to stand with the masses

Gen. Thomas Cirillo Swaka - Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the National Salvation Front/Army (NAS)

In his 2019 Christmas and New Year message, the Chairman and Commander-in-chief of the National Salvation Front (NAS) General Thomas Cirilo has urged the International Community and friends of South Sudan to stand with the suffering people of South Sudan.

“To the International Community and friends of South Sudan, especially IGAD, AU, UN, Troika (US, UK and Norway), and the EU; we urge you to stand with the people of South Sudan rather than the leaders of the country who are the real obstacles to achieving sustainable peace in the country,” read the message.

He also pointed out that it is high time to find a new approach to arrive at an inclusive peace accord that will address the root causes of the conflict.

“The current peace agreement (R-ARCSS) is indeed a failed one…It has fully surrendered the country and its people to President Kiir’s regime. It is time to think of an inclusive peace process that will address the root causes of the conflict in South Sudan in order to achieve sustainable peace.”
