NAS to hold leadership briefing amid South Sudan political uncertainty

The NAS Salvation Council (NSC) is set to host a key leadership briefing, bringing together senior figures of the movement alongside members and invited participants, at a time of heightened political uncertainty in South Sudan.

Scheduled for Saturday, 31 January 2026, the meeting is the first in a planned series of briefings aimed at strengthening coordination and information-sharing within NAS. It will feature presentations and addresses from a range of senior leaders, reflecting the movementโ€™s commitment to collective leadership rather than reliance on a single figure.

The briefing will be held virtually over Zoom, enabling NAS members from all time zones around the world to participate. In addition to NAS officials and members, attendees are expected to include South Sudanese elders, civil society activists, and supporters of the peopleโ€™s struggle. This broad participation underscores NASโ€™s effort to situate its internal deliberations within a wider national and international context.

The briefing comes amid recent political and security developments in the country, as speculation grows over a possible new peace initiative. Organisers have indicated that leadersโ€™ remarks will address developments on the ground, the evolving situation in South Sudan, and the movementโ€™s political positioning.

A senior line-up of NAS leadership will speak at the meeting, including the chairperson and commander-in-chief, the deputy chairperson, and representatives from key political, administrative, womenโ€™s, and youth structures.

The meeting is intended to give members and supporters the opportunity to hear directly from multiple leaders โ€” not only the chairman โ€” about the movementโ€™s direction and priorities, highlighting the importance of engagement as events continue to unfold.

โ€œThis meeting is about unity, clarity, and collective responsibility. Our members, supporters, and friends of the struggle must hear directly from NAS leadership on the current political events,ย  where we stand and how we move forward together,โ€ Dominic Akwai, the coordinator for NAS Branches said.

NAS members seeking to participate have been advised to coordinate with their respective branch offices to access the Zoom link and schedule.
