“Today, we honour our martyrs who gave their lives in the pursuit of freedom, justice, dignity and a democratic nation of South Sudan,” he said, adding that the sacrifices made in the struggle would not be forgotten.
The anniversary was marked under the theme “Towards a Just, Diverse, and Prosperous South Sudan for All.”
According to NAS officials, celebrations marking the anniversary are taking place in liberated areas, refugee camps and among members in various international branches of the movement, reflecting what the group described as growing support among South Sudanese at home and in the diaspora.
Cirillo said the people of South Sudan remain determined to achieve peace, justice and dignity despite years of suffering. He criticised the government of President Salva Kiir, saying the country continues to face insecurity, hunger and widespread hardship.
The National Salvation Front was founded on 6 March 2017 after Cirillo resigned from the national army and launched the movement advocating for political reform and a federal system of governance.
NAS officials said the chairman has received several phone calls and congratulatory messages from political leaders, allies and well-wishers, commending the movement for its resilience and encouraging it to continue its struggle for democratic change in South Sudan in its historic and revolutionary role.
As part of the anniversary events, the Chairman is also scheduled to address the nation in a live discussion on the social media app Clubhouse, where he is expected to speak directly with South Sudanese citizens and supporters about the future of the movement and the political situation in the country.
The movement said the anniversary serves as a moment to honour the sacrifices made in the struggle and to renew its commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan.
