NAS fights off SPLA-IO criminals in Yei River County
NAS forces in Yei River County Thursday chased off SPLA-IO forces responsible for a series of heinous atrocities and attacked their base in Kinyira which has been used as the launching pad for the criminal attacks on civilians and their property in the area.
According to a press release issued on Thursday 09th April – the same date of the attack – the NAS forces were “acting in self-defence” and “to protect the villages and surrounding areas, and send a clear message that NAS will continue to protect civilians under its control”.

The statement listed a series of repetitive violations spanning from early March to the date of the attack. The atrocities include rape, kidnap, looting of livestock, burning and destruction of property and so on.
“NAS will not tolerate such criminal acts,” the statement cautioned.
Although NAS maintains its commitment to the December 2017 Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) signed in Addis Ababa, and to the January 2020 Rome Declaration recommitting to the same, it also reserves its right defend itself and to the protect the innocent civilians under its control.
NAS also welcomes any investigation into this particular incident.
