20190423 Press Release on the looming military offensive by Kiir’s militia

– Massive military build-up to attack NAS positions
– This build-up is the second of its kind after the first attempt was successfully resisted, crashed and neutralised by forces who only fought back in self-defense
– NAS reiterates its commitment to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) but reserves the right of self-defense and remains steadfast in its call for a just and sustainable peace through an inclusive negotiation that addresses the root causes of the conflict in South Sudan.

20190527 Press Release of Juba’s violation of CoHA and the relocation and redeployment of forces around Lainya and Wonduruba

Mathiang Anyoor, with its affiliates under Dr. Martin Elia, has been actively relocation and reploying forces around Lainya and Wounduruba areas
These actions are utterly contrary to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) which binds us as signatories to that agreement
On 26th May, these forces attacked, but the gallant NAS forces repulsed the attack and defeated the Mathiang Anyoor and their allied militia groups

20170803 Statemet on SPLM IO attack of forces under Lt. Gen. Kenyi Lo Buron

The National Salvation Front (NAS) is profoundly disturbed by the recent attack carried out by SPLM-IO on its forces under Lt. Gen. John Kenyi Lo Buron. The irresponsible and reckless attack by a segment of SPLM-IO forces was triggered by Lt. Gen. Lo Buron’s exercise of his inalienable right of choice to join NAS. In utter disregard of the core principle that “each human being is free to determine his or her political destiny or military affiliation”, the SPLM-IO leadership ordered the attack on Lt. Gen. Kenyi’s General Headquarters with the intention of eliminating him – where he successfully repulsed two attacks.

Unfortunate though this development is, the leadership of NAS hopes that its SPLM-IO partners in opposition to the Juba regime, can learn something from it. NAS views the transgression of the principle of the right of every human being to determine his or her political destiny and affiliation by the SPLM-IO as a colossal error that should not be repeated under any circumstances.

20170723 Press Release On the Government’s Strategy of Peace through War

20170723 Press Release On the Government’s Strategy of Peace through War

The National Salvation Front (NAS) would like to commend the Trioka (Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and the European Union for their 20th July 2017 joint statement that expressed deep dissatisfaction and disapproval of actions and punitive measures being actively pursued by President Salva Kiir’s regime leading to the proliferation of violence, displacement, food insecurity and more suffering of the people of South Sudan.

Similarly, we commend the statement by El Ghassim Wane, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping, also dated 20th July 2017 in which he pointed out contradictions between pledges and promises made by the government of South Sudan (such a s the National Dialogue and the declaration of a unilateral ceasefire) and actual actions on the ground (blocking of news media websites and the assault against the Headquarters of the SPLM-IO in Pagak).

These two statements confirm the position of the National Salvation Front (NAS). In fact, in our Independence Day Message (dated 09th July 2017), the Chairman of NAS, General Thomas Cirillo made it very clear that the current crisis can only be ended through an inclusive just peace process. Kiir’s National Dialogue, the re-unification of the SPLM, and talk of elections are all but unnecessary diversions from the main goals of achieving lasting peace and genuine reconciliation.

A sustainable peace would be achieved in South Sudan if the international community would follow up these declarations with actions that would force the government of South Sudan to cease and desist from its policies that will lead to the unfortunate disintegration of the country. While much is expected from the IGAD as the primary moderator and referee for the peace process in South Sudan, some assurance is needed that IGAD countries act in unison on a common objective – and abandon partiality in dealings with the Government of South Sudan.
We too remain seized of the need for a peaceful solution to South Sudan’s national crises, as we retain the right to self-defence against the regime’s victimization policies and practices.

Long live NAS!
Long Live South Sudan!

Independence Day Message, 9th July 2017

Eleven long years since that day in 2005 when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in Naivasha, and six cruel years since the dawn of independence broke in South Sudan on 9th July 2011, we should have been celebrating a day of great joy…

20170430 Joint Statement by Opposition Groups on the National Dialogue

….we reiterate that the prerequisite for a meaningful dialogue are:

* An agreement on a political process to bring the war to an end through a roundtableconference to be convened in a neutral
* A negotiated and enforceable permanent ceasefire and cantonment of all thebelligerent forces.
* A genuinely committment to an immediate, full and unconditional deployment ofregional protection forces and the demilitarization of Juba and other major cities.
* The repatriation of refugees and return of IDPs to their houses and communities toenable them participate in the political process,
