14 years after independence: NAS Chairman calls for a second liberation

On the 14th anniversary of South Sudanโ€™s independence, the Chairman of the National Salvation Front (NAS), Gen. Thomas Cirillo Swaka, took to Twitter/X to deliver a clear message to the people of South Sudan: there is nothing to celebrate.

โ€œFourteen years after July 9, 2011, our people still suffer under the same SPLM regime,โ€ the Chairman said in his statement. โ€œThey face violence, fear, displacement and poverty. True freedom is still out of reach.โ€

In his message, Gen. Thomas Cirillo described this anniversary as a time of reflection, not celebration. He called for a Second Liberation to restore dignity, peace and justice through an inclusive and united national process.

NAS honoured the strength and resilience of the people of South Sudan and saluted the bravery of its forces, while remembering the martyrs of the liberation struggle whose sacrifices, the Chairman said, will never be forgotten.

To our people: your strength inspires us. We will not stop until South Sudan is free โ€” politically, economically and socially.

Gen. Cirillo also issued a call to all opposition groups to set aside differences and come together in the national interest.

Now is the time to act together to save our country

As the people of South Sudan mark 14 years since independence, NAS reaffirms its commitment to the struggle for genuine freedom, justice and national dignity.
