NAS forces overrun SSPDF base in Kajo-Keji, capture weapons

The gallant forces of the National Salvation Front (NAS) successfully repelled an attempted attack by the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) on Feb. 9, seizing control of the Jalimo detachment base in Kajo-Keji County, Central Equatoria State.
The base, long used as a launchpad for SSPDF offensives against NAS positions, fell after an intense battle that left the enemy with heavy losses.
In a press release issued by NAS Spokesperson Mr Suba Samuel, NAS forces captured key weapons and inflicted casualties, including:
- Four SSPDF soldiers killed in action.
- Three PKM machine guns seized.
- Two RPGs with eight rounds of shells captured.
- Eight boxes of PKM ammunition recovered.
In the wake of the operation, Mr Suba Samuel dismissed accusations circulating on social media that NAS forces had burned down homes and displaced civilians, calling the claims enemy propaganda. Instead, NAS accused the SSPDF of retaliating against local villagers near the Jalimo base, burning homes and targeting civilians they suspected of supporting NAS. Suba said such reprisal attacks have become a common SSPDF tactic, particularly in areas like Lainya, Wonduruba, Lobonok and Yei, where SSPDF has suffered losses.
the SSPDF forces reorganized, returned and burned down the village near Jalimo detachment base accusing the villagers of supporting NAS
While the NAS Military Command maintains its right to self-defense, it reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to a just and sustainable peace in South Sudan. NAS stressed that the path to lasting stability lies in credible political dialogue that addresses the root causes of the conflict.
Following the successful operation, the NAS Military Command praised its officers, non-commissioned officers and rank-and-file soldiers for their bravery and dedication in defending NAS positions.
