NAS condemns massacre of South Sudanese in Sudan, calls for International Action

 

The National Salvation Front (NAS) has condemned the recent mass killings of South Sudanese civilians in Wad Medani and Kombo Tayba, Al Jezira State, Sudan, as “appalling, barbaric, and inhuman.” The incidents reportedly occurred following the recapture of Wad Medani by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Footage of the atrocities, corroborated by multiple sources, has sparked retaliatory violence in Juba and other towns across South Sudan.

In a statement addressed to the press, the international community and governments of Sudan and South Sudan, NAS held the Sudanese government and its armed forces accountable for the massacre and demanded adherence to international laws protecting civilians in conflict zones.

NAS also urged the Sudanese authorities to launch a transparent investigation and cooperate with international inquiries to bring those responsible to justice.

To the international bodies, including the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU), NAS requested that investigation teams be formed and sent to Wad Medani stressing that the need for robust mechanisms to ensure accountability and prevent further atrocities.

The NAS statement concluded with a resolute call for action: β€œThe lives lost in Wad Medani must not be forgotten. The perpetrators must face justice, and the international community must ensure such crimes never happen again.”
