We must lead by example: NAS Chairman tells newly inaugurated council members and senior advisors

The Chairman of the National Salvation Front (NAS), General Thomas Cirillo, has called on the movement’s newly inaugurated members of the leadership council and senior advisors to uphold their responsibilities with integrity, humility, and dedication, emphasizing that leadership is a duty, not a privilege.
Speaking during the historic inauguration ceremony the chairman urged the leaders to remain actively engaged in guiding the revolution and ensuring that NAS remains committed to its vision of a free and just South Sudan. He stressed that leadership requires more than words—it demands action and sacrifice.
We are not here to be masters of our people; we are here to be their servants
“We are not here to be masters of our people; we are here to be their servants,” the chairman said. “True leaders must be humble, committed, and lead by example—not just through words, but through action.”
The inauguration marked a long-awaited milestone for NAS, solidifying its highest executive organ and reinforcing its ability to lead the struggle effectively. With the leadership council and advisory body now fully in place, NAS stands ready to advance its mission with a united and structured leadership.
A Call for Active Leadership
People do not follow cowardly leaders,They will look at us—how we behave, how we lead them
The chairman reminded the advisors that their role is not symbolic but essential to the success of the movement. He urged them to be proactive, step forward with advice and guidance whenever necessary, and work collaboratively to strengthen the organization.
“I expect you to step in to advise and guide whenever there is something that needs to be corrected or addressed,” he said.
The speech underscored NAS’s broader mission and the need for leaders to inspire confidence among supporters. The chairman warned against passivity, urging the council and advisors to take an active role in engaging with NAS members and the South Sudanese people.
“People do not follow cowardly leaders,” he said. “They will look at us—how we behave, how we lead them. If they see courage, commitment, and selflessness, they will have hope. But if they see weakness and division, they will lose faith in the struggle.”
Time to Act is Now!
While acknowledging the importance of building strong institutional structures, the chairman stressed that NAS must now transition from words to action. The movement has spent years talking, drafting strategies, policies, and declarations—but now, he declared, the time for talking is over.
“We have talked enough for the last 7 years. Now, it is time for action. It is time for us to be at the forefront of the struggle, leading by example in every corner of our country,” he said.
He urged NAS members to actively engage with communities, mobilize support, and take initiative rather than waiting for external forces to bring change.
“We Will Never Surrender”
The chairman used the occasion to reaffirm his unwavering commitment to the NAS movement and its goals, vowing never to abandon the cause or betray the people.
“I will never betray you. I will never betray our people. I will never betray our country. I would rather perish in this struggle than surrender. The National Salvation Front and the people will never surrender. Never!” he declared.
His words served as a message of resilience and defiance against the regime, assuring NAS members that the struggle would continue no matter the obstacles. He encouraged them to remain steadfast, emphasizing that their sacrifices were not in vain and that the movement would persevere.
Strength in Unity
In his closing remarks, the chairman called for unity within the movement, urging leaders to work together, remain disciplined, and set a strong example. He acknowledged that internal disagreements are inevitable but emphasized that differences must be handled with tolerance and wisdom.
“As human beings, we will have our differences, but we must learn to be tolerant of one another. We must be humble, admit our mistakes when we are wrong, and teach those who come after us to do the same,” he said.
The chairman’s speech set a resolute and determined tone, reinforcing the NAS leadership’s commitment to the struggle and their role in guiding South Sudan toward liberation.
